Ο Πλαταμώνας είναι δημοτικό διαμέρισμα και οικισμός του Δήμου Ανατολικού Ολύμπου. Βρίσκεται στο Νομό Πιερίας, στο νότιο άκρο του, στους πρόποδες του Ολύμπου. Συνορεύει βόρεια με τον Νέο Παντελεήμονα και νότια με τους Νέους Πόρους. Απέχει 38 χλμ. από την Κατερίνη και 48 χλμ. από τη Λάρισα. Ο πληθυσμός του ανέρχεται στους 2.013 κατοίκους, σύμφωνα με την Απογραφή του 2011.

Ο Πλαταμώνας ήταν αυτόνομη κοινότητα μέχρι το 1999, οπότε και εντάχθηκε στον Δήμο Ανατολικού Ολύμπου. Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση, οφείλει το όνομά του είτε στους πολλούς πλατάνους που βρίσκονται στην περιοχή είτε στις πλατιές αμμουδιές που έχουν οι παραλίες του.

Platamon is a municipal district and settlement of the Municipality of East Olympus. It is located in the Pieria Prefecture, at its southern edge, at the foot of Mount Olympus. It borders Neo Panteleimona to the north and Neoi Poroi to the south. It is situated 38 km from Katerini and 48 km from Larissa. Its population amounts to 2,013 inhabitants, according to the 2011 Census.

Platamon was an independent community until 1999, when it was integrated into the Municipality of East Olympus. According to tradition, it owes its name either to the numerous plane trees (platanoi) found in the area or to the wide sandy beaches (platies ammoudies) of its coastline.
